Gym Class Heroes Drop Second New Single ‘Useless’

The multi-platinum group Gym Class Heroes released their second single, ‘Useless,’ from their upcoming album today, November 6th. This track marks their second release after the group embarked on a 15-year hiatus from releasing music. Another star on the rap/rock band’s meteoric comeback after touring and playing the festival circuit this summer, this nostalgia-inducing track brings frontman Travie McCoy right back to where it all began: New York City’s Lower East Side, and when all social interactions weren’t tainted by cell phones and other distractions. McCoy gives a fantastic, laid-back delivery on top of this reggae-esque, early-2000s-like track, with lots to love for listeners of all genres. On ‘Useless’, McCoy states that…

“There was a romanticism to the Lower East Side that lasted decade after decade, and I was lucky enough to live in the city during one of those eras. It was a huge turning point in my life that I’ll NEVER forget. If you know, you know! Everyone was fly. It was the pre-smartphone era, so there were no iPhone-lit faces. We made REAL memories.”

With a sentiment most people can share, McCoy continues with…

“People were actually interacting with each other. Max Fish, Pianos, Beauty & Essex, or hitting up Katz’s after a wild night with your tribe. Parties where you never knew who you’d brush shoulders with. I made friends who are still in my life today. You could find yourself sitting next to Madonna or sharing nutcrackers with the NY Giants. Again, if you know, you know.”

There is nothing to say about Gym Class Heroes’ legacy that you don’t already know (multi-platinum records, collaborations with Bruno Mars, Adam Levine, and Patrick Stump, generational songs like “Cupid’s Chokehold,” “Stereo Hearts,” and “Ass Back Home”), but this strong comeback from the group shows they aren’t ready to slow down anytime soon. And with the fantastic track ‘Useless’ out now, a forthcoming LP on the way, and shows with legends Lupe Fiasco and B.O.B., why would they?
