Privacy Policy
Last updated: 08/31/2026
Hit Parader is published by Sumerian Entertainment Group, 434 Houston St, Nashville, TN 37203, USA. This policy explains what we collect when you visit hitparader.com, why we collect it, and what you can do about it.
The short version
We collect your email address if you give it to us, and we use analytics to understand how the site is used. We do not sell your personal information. You can unsubscribe from any email we send, at any time, using the link in that email.
What we collect
Information you give us. When you sign up for our newsletter we collect your email address, and your first name if you choose to provide it (it’s optional). When you contact us, we collect whatever you put in that message.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, we automatically receive technical information when you visit: your IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, referring page, the pages you view, and the dates and times of your visits.
Information about how you found us. When you submit a form, we record which page you were on and which sign-up placement you used, so we can understand what works.
We do not knowingly collect payment card details on this site. Magazine purchases are handled by Shopify — see Buying the magazine below.
Cookies and similar technologies
| What | Who runs it | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Google Tag Manager / Google Analytics | Measures site traffic and how pages are used. Loaded on the live site only. | |
HubSpot (hubspotutk and related) | HubSpot | Recognises repeat visitors, links a form submission to the visits that preceded it, and prevents duplicate sign-ups. |
| Shopify | Shopify | Runs the magazine store and its cart. |
| Embedded media | Spotify, Vimeo, YouTube | Embedded players may set their own cookies when a page containing them loads. |
| WordPress VIP | Automattic | Hosting, security and performance. |
These load when you open a page. Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies, and you can do so at any time. Blocking them may stop parts of the site working — embedded players and the sign-up forms in particular.
How we use it
- To send you the emails you asked for, and to deliver anything we promised with them, including discount codes
- To measure and improve the site and our writing
- To fulfil and support magazine orders
- To keep the site secure and prevent abuse
- To meet our legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your email address with other companies for their own marketing.
Who we share it with
We use service providers who process information on our behalf and are contractually limited to that purpose:
- HubSpot — email marketing and contact records
- Google — website analytics
- Shopify — the magazine store
- Automattic (WordPress VIP) — hosting
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect our rights or someone’s safety, or as part of a merger or sale of the business.
Buying the magazine
Magazine purchases run through Shopify. When you buy, Shopify collects the details needed for the order — name, shipping address, email and payment information — under Shopify’s own privacy policy. Payment card details are handled by Shopify’s payment processor and do not reach us.
Email, and how to stop it
Every marketing email we send carries an unsubscribe link and a link to manage your preferences. Unsubscribing takes effect immediately and you do not need to contact us first.
If you subscribed to more than one Sumerian Entertainment Group publication, each has its own subscription, so leaving one does not remove you from the others. The preference page lets you manage them individually.
How long we keep it
We keep newsletter subscriber records for as long as you remain subscribed, and for a reasonable period afterwards so we can honour your unsubscribe. Analytics data is retained in line with our Google Analytics retention settings. Order records are kept as long as tax and accounting rules require.
Your rights
If you are in the United States: depending on your state, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to request its deletion, to correct it, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. California residents have these rights under the CCPA/CPRA. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
If you are in the EU, EEA, or UK: you have the right to access your personal data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive a copy in a portable format. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Our legal bases are: consent for marketing email, legitimate interests for site analytics and security, and contract for fulfilling orders.
To exercise any of these, email hello@hitparader.com. We’ll respond within the time your local law allows.
International transfers
We are based in the United States and our service providers are primarily US-based, so information you give us is processed in the United States. If you are outside the US, this means your information is transferred to a country whose data protection laws may differ from your own.
Where information is transferred out of the EU, EEA or UK, we rely on the safeguards our service providers maintain for those transfers — including the Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission, and, where the provider holds one, certification under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. You can request more detail about these safeguards by emailing hello@hitparader.com.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect the information we hold, including encrypted connections and reputable processors. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes
We may update this policy. When we do, we’ll change the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we’ll announce it on the site and, where appropriate, by email to subscribers.
