Soen Addresses Violence and Betrayal through “Mercenary”

Following the release of “Primal”, Soen has revealed their latest offering from their upcoming album, Reliance. With six studio albums out in the world defining their signature sound, their seventh is set to be released this January.

Mercenary

Today, Nov 4, Swedish prog metal powerhouses Soen have unleashed “Mercenary”.

The vocals and instrumental deliver a powerful performance, cycling between loud and calm. With a strong melody, perfectly timed pauses, and meaningful lyrics, “Mercenary” gives a great insight into the world of the band’s upcoming album.

“‘Mercenary’ is about the violence we inherit, which then sees hatred seeping into lives–and life–which in turn shapes generations,” comments vocalist and frontman Joel Ekelöf.  “It also addresses betrayal, about how that can see us ‘crowning vultures into kings,” furthers founding member and drummer Martin Lopez. “At its heart, ‘Mercenary’ speaks to the cost of belief,” Ekelöf adds before Lopez affirms that “musically, it carries the essence of Soen – heavy yet melodic and built on power and precision.”

The song comes with a lyric video that showcases a dystopian world in black, white, and purple. The video was created by Freakshot Film and can be viewed here.

Primal

“Mercenary”, the second song off the band’s upcoming album, follows “Primal”. The single explores the existential fight between the human spirit and the current world, coming paired with a black, white, and red lyric video

Lopez comments, “Primal’ is a song that came from a place of frustration with the world we’re living in. The corruption, the division and the suffocating grip that technology has on all of us. It’s heavy and straight to the point, built on riffs and raw energy, but it also opens up into a chorus that feels hopeful, like a reminder that light can still break through the dark.”

“For us, it’s about more than just aggression,” continues Ekelöf. “It’s about encouraging people to find that fire again, to reconnect with passion, and to take those steps out of the darkness together.”

Kreator Pay Homage to Dario Argento’s Horror Classic “Suspiria” in “Tränenpalast” (Feat. Britta Görtz)

“‘Tränenpalast’ is our tribute to the great tradition of Italian cinema,” says Kreator’s Mille Petrozza. The band has revealed their newest single from their upcoming studio album and is preparing for their EU/UK tour.

Tränenpalast

Kreator has unleashed their newest single, “Tränenpalast”, featuring Britta Görtz of Hiraes. The song pays homage to Dario Argento’s 1977 cult film Suspiria through lyrics and video. The lyrics allude to “the three mothers”, an ancient witch cover from the Suspiria universe.

The cinematic music video features the band performing in a haunted ballet school, where images of said witches in various stages of transformation appear. The video was created by masters of the macabre, Grupa 13, and can be found here.

Musically, we bow to the great Goblin, in direct conversation with maestro Claudio Simonetti. We hope you enjoy the song as much as we do. Only love to the greats! Hail to the Hordes!”

Looking for Music To Add To Your Halloween Playlist?

Whether you are looking to throw a large-scale Halloween celebration, need the perfect pre-game playlist, or are spending the night chilling at home, here are some gothic, spooky song and album recommendations, perfect for any Halloween occasion.

Albums

Crimson Curse Album Art

The Kentucky Vampires – The Crimson Curse

The Kentucky Vampires are a deathrock/goth rock band from… you guessed it, Kentucky. Their music is absolutely perfect for any vampire fan, especially with their 2020 album, The Crimson Curse

The album opens with a beautiful, yet haunting organ track titled “A Marler Toccata for Organ E Minor”. The Crimson Curse is a no-skip album, each track filled with an atmosphere perfect for Halloween. Their most popular song, “Saint Vincent”, appears on the album, along with other perfectly crafted tracks such as “Silence”, “The Falling Sun”, and more. The album ends with the dark, atmospheric, and mysterious track, “Our Love Has No Goodbyes”, making for the perfect closer. The vampire-themed band is essential for any spooky occasion.

Pendulum Album Art

Twin Tribes – Pendulum

Twin Tribes followed up their acclaimed album Ceremony in 2024 with Pendulum. The release features their top hit “Monolith”, with a beat perfect for the goth club or any Halloween party.

Throughout the album, you can find catchy drums, beautiful synths, and deep vocals. Tracks such as “Temperance” create the perfect atmosphere, transcending the listener into a world filled with beautiful, yet simple guitars and driving synths. Another more upbeat track, similar to “Monolith”, is the incredible “Another Life”, great for dancing or just to vibe to.

The Loved One Album Art

Strange Boutique – The Loved One

Strange Boutique can be easily identified by their unique, swirly guitars, which work to create the perfect, almost witchy atmosphere. The Loved One is only one album in a beautifully crafted discography filled with incredible music. The band rose from the D.C. scene in the late 80s, and released music this year with their album Let The Lonely Heart Sing.

The Loved One is great for any ethereal, witchy, haunting occasion. A standout track is “A Certain Euphoria”. The intro works perfectly to build anticipation while the bassline keeps the listener centered. Monica Richards’ vocals float majestically over the atmospheric track, characterized by plenty of guitar pedals.

“Drown” is another haunting track. The song, which is also the band’s top hit, sets a ghostly scene. The vocals and instrumental have the perfect amount of contrast, and the ’90s production takes the song even further. The album’s track, “We Treat The Blindness”, continues the trend of front-and-center bass and floating, ethereal vocals. The instrumental breaks between sections allow the listener to get lost in the song.

Songs

Floodland Album Art

Never Land – A Fragment – Sisters of Mercy

Sisters of Mercy’s 1987 album Floodland is home to some of their top hits. “Lucretia My Reflection” is a goth club staple, and “Dominion/Mother Russia” is an unforgettable seven-minute intro track.

The album’s outro, “Never Land – A Fragment”, features a repeating instrumental throughout; not much changes in the two minutes and 48 seconds. However, it is the perfect suspenseful and spooky track. The bassline is captivating, and the electronic elements add to the eeriness of the piece, making this the perfect Halloween track. Listeners are also able to hear the almost 12-minute version of the song with its 2006 remaster.

Black Sand Album Art

In The Fog – Fearing

Like the name, this song feels like a fog machine. Its synths work to make a floaty atmosphere while the drums keep the beat. The vocals in this song are deep, adding a calming yet creepy element.

“In The Fog” is perfect for any chill Halloween occasion, but also doubles as a great party song with its hard-hitting bassline.

The Bela Session Artwork

Bela Lugosi’s Dead – Bauhaus

If you are familiar with the subculture, you probably could have guessed this one would have a place on the list. The song is too iconic to ignore, often credited as the first goth song. Its lyrics are perfect for any Halloween occasion. Standing at just under ten minutes, the song is filled with a haunting atmosphere and lyrics meant to chant along to.

Bauhaus has made a significant impact on the goth subculture and, in effect, all things spooky.

Seventeen Seconds Album Art

Three – The Cure

The Cure’s 1980 album, Seventeen Seconds, features plenty of great tracks, including “A Forest” and “M”. “Three” is a unique track with its deep bass, electronic sounds, and vocals that seem to sit in the background of the song rather than the forefront.

The rhythmic electronic beeps add to the tension in the track, which is already at a high. The song sounds evil and dark in the best way possible, filling the two minutes and 38 seconds with atmosphere fit for Halloween.

Ken Carson Drops “YES” While Taking His Antagonist 2.0 Tour to Arena Status

Ken Carson just dropped a Halloween treat. The Atlanta-born platinum artist released his new track “YES” today, a high-energy anthem produced by Clif Shyne that arrives in the middle of his Antagonist 2.0 tour with Playboi Carti. After teasing snippets across socials for weeks, the official version finally landed, following his explosive ComplexCon performance and his recent Hypebeast Magazine cover.

2025 has been a breakout year for Carson, who’s turned chaos into an art form. His latest album More Chaos debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, earning him his biggest release to date and solidifying his reign as one of rap’s loudest disruptors. The project followed A Great Chaos, which helped define the modern “rage rap” movement and pushed Carson’s sound into punk and electronic territory.

Since More Chaos dropped, the Opium signee has racked up four new RIAA Platinum certifications for “Fighting My,” “Overseas,” “SS,” and A Great Chaos. The album’s production lineup features regular collaborators Starboy, Lil 88, F1LTHY, Outtatown, Lucian, and Legion. On release night, Carson surprised fans with the bonus track “Off The Meter,” marking the first official collaboration between Ken, Playboi Carti, and Destroy Lonely.

The success of More Chaos carried Carson into a new league. The project topped Apple Music’s All-Genre chart, Spotify’s Global and U.S. charts, and HITS Top 50, pulling in more than 21 million streams on its first day. Critics across The New York Times, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Billboard, and Complex named it one of the year’s best releases, while Variety added Carson to its Young Hollywood Impact Report.

Carson’s live shows have grown just as massive. His Chaos World Tour in 2024 sold over 230,000 tickets across North America and Europe, including two sold-out nights at Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles and three back-to-back sellouts at Terminal 5 in New York City. Known for his high-voltage performances, he’s built a reputation for turning every set into a riot of energy, distortion, and viral moments.

Off stage, Carson has become a cultural figure in his own right. He’s earned shoutouts from icons like Jay-Z, Justin Bieber, LeBron James, and Anthony Kiedis of Red Hot Chili Peppers. He’s collaborated with brands like Ed Hardy, Y/Project, and Marc Jacobs’ Heaven line, while also debuting exclusive merch collabs with Jesse Jo Stark’s Deadly Doll and Affliction at ComplexCon. The latter of which will be available at 9pm PT here.

With “YES,” Carson continues his unrelenting streak, proving there’s no ceiling to the world of chaos he’s built. His next chapter is already unfolding on the Antagonist 2.0 arena tour, where he’s turning every stop into a statement on how far he’s come, and how far he’s still willing to go.

Stream “YES” now and catch Ken Carson on tour through December.

Sophie Powers Confronts the Darkness on “spiderwebs,” a Raw and Grungy Anthem About Abuse and Control

Sophie Powers is done holding back. The 21-year-old pop disruptor has dropped her haunting new single “spiderwebs,” a track that dives deep into the emotional wreckage of abuse and control. Following her recent release “muddy,” the song stretches her dark-pop aesthetic into grittier territory, pairing hypnotic beats with vulnerable storytelling that cuts straight to the core.

“Years of abuse don’t happen overnight. They creep in slowly, built through lies, control, and manipulation until you no longer recognize yourself,” Sophie shares. “My song ‘spiderwebs’ is about being a victim of that kind of abuse. For years, I was trapped in a toxic relationship, caught in a web that only got tighter the more I tried to escape. One moment, I felt free. The next I was powerless.” In the track’s accompanying music video, Sophie brings that feeling to life. Caught in a literal web, she tears at the threads surrounding her, mirroring the process of reclaiming her freedom. “The chorus says it best: ‘I’m trapped in spiderwebs made from things you said and promised,’” she explains. “This song is my way of breaking that cycle. It’s for anyone who has ever felt the weight of abuse or is still living in it. I want them to know they are not alone. The darkness doesn’t last forever. You can break free. You can transform. You are a butterfly.”

Since first emerging as a fearless voice in pop, Sophie Powers has built her world on raw honesty and creative rebellion. With over 80 million global streams and collaborations with artists like Grimes, Dillon Francis, and Baby Tate, she’s become a name impossible to ignore. Her crossover into fashion and K-pop has only expanded her influence, from partnerships with Harajuku streetwear icons ACDC RAG and Gloomy Bear to co-writing credits for global acts like IVE, ILLIT, and NMIXX.

Earlier this year, Sophie brought out ILLIT during her mainstage set at Seoul’s One Universe Festival for a performance of “jellyous,” earning her a new wave of international fans. Her freestyle street performance has also exploded on TikTok, pulling in over 50 million views and showcasing her quick, magnetic energy in real time.

The Ocean Between Us

Conquer Divide has revealed “The Ocean Between Us”. The song is carried by melodic and powerful vocals flowing over an intense rock instrumental. It explores their heavy, yet melancholy sound and emotionally vulnerable lyrics. The ending brings the loud, powerful song to a close with a calm solo vocal, accompanied by light ambience as Kiarely Taylor sings, “I had a dream we could survive the ocean’s divide.” The single follows “Bad Dreams”, featuring metalcore band Of Virtue, released earlier this year.

“‘The Ocean Between Us’ is about being set on one life path, going through the motions until something or someone stops you in your tracks,” the band says. “It’s about seeing an alternate version of your life and wondering what if. What if you took the leap and started over somewhere far away, with someone new?”

The single comes with a lyric video, which can be found here!

“Ocean Between Us” is available for streaming and purchase here!

Slow Burn

Conquer Divide is currently working on their upcoming album, set to release in 2026.

Their most recent album, Slow Burn, has received over 52 million streams worldwide and proved to be a success. The album’s single, “Paralyzed”, earned a placement on Metal Hammer’s 2023 Tracks of the Year. Leading up to the release of the iconic album, the band returned to the studio in 2020 with Tyler Smyth and Joey Sturgis. The two proved to be perfect in bringing Slow Burn to life; Smyth, known for his work with Falling In Reverse and I Prevail, and four-time RIAA Certified Sturgis, known for his work with Asking Alexandria, The Devil Wears Prada, and Of Mice & Men.

Slow Burn is available for streaming and purchase here!

The band has also received praise from Rock Sound, Distorted Sound, Alternative Press, Revolver, GuitarWorld, SXM Octane, Loudwire, and more.

Conquer Divide

Having formed a decade ago, Conquer Divide has evolved their sound tremendously from melodic metalcore to hard rock.

Since forming, they have toured with acts such as 10 Years, The Warning, New Years Day, Ankor, Electric Callboy, and plenty more. They have also released collaborations with Electric Callboy, 10 Years, and Of Virtue.

The band, composed of vocalist Kiarely Taylor, drummer Sam Landa, and guitarists Kristen Sturgis and Izzy Johnson, has created plenty of hard-hitting and emotionally raw tracks. “The Ocean Between Us” continues the trend.

From an album release planned and appearances at ShipRocked 2026 and Sonic Temple 2026, next year is set to be their biggest yet.

Megadeth Reveals Final Album Track Listing, Includes “Ride The Lightning”

In preparation for Megadeth’s final album release, they have revealed the official track listing. The album will include “Ride The Lightning” in order to “close the circle,” according to Dave Mustaine.

Official Track List Revealed

The official track listing for the legendary band’s upcoming self-titled album has been released. It is set to include “Tipping Point”, which was released on October 3rd. More information can be found here! The album will also include the iconic “Ride The Lightning” as a bonus track, which Dave Mustaine wrote with Metallica’s James Hetfield, Cliff Burton, and Lars Ulrich. The song has gone on to become a metal staple, known as the title track of Metallica’s 1984 album.

“As I come full circle on the career of a lifetime, the decision to include ‘Ride The Lightning,’ a song I co-wrote with James, Lars, and Cliff, was to pay my respects to where my career first started,” Mustaine says.

The official track listing is as follows:

Tipping Point

I Don’t Care

Hey, God?!

Let There Be Shred

Puppet Parade

Another Bad Day

Made To Kill

Obey The Call

I Am War

The Last Note

Ride The Lightning (Bonus Track)

Self-Titled

Megadeth’s self-titled album is ready to release on January 23, 2026.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that the 2026 album would be the band’s last. Vic Rattlehead, Mustaine’s alter ego, stated, “For over four decades, I’ve been chained in silence, but the end demands my voice. It is confirmed that the next Megadeth studio album will be the last. Forty years of metal, forged in steel, ending in fire. And when the new year rises, the global farewell tour. You’ve heard the warning. Now prepare yourself, Cyber Army. Stay loud, stay tuned, and meet me on the frontlines.”

Mustaine stated, “There’s so many musicians that have come to the end of their career, whether accidental or intentional, most of them don’t get to go out on their own terms on top, and that’s where I’m at in my life right now. I have travelled the world and have made millions upon millions of fans, and the hardest part of all of this is saying goodbye to them.” He continues, “We can’t wait for you to hear this album and see us on tour. If there was ever a perfect time for us to put out a new album, it’s now. If there was ever a perfect time to tour the world, it’s now. This is also a perfect time for us to tell you that it’s our last studio album. We’ve made a lot of friends over the years, and I hope to see all of you on our global farewell tour. Don’t be mad, don’t be sad, be happy for us all, come celebrate with me these next few years.”

The album is available for pre-order via Mustaine’s Tradecraft imprint in partnership with Frontiers Label Group’s new BLKIIBLK label. You can find it here!

Halloween Brings a Brand New Avatar Album

Avatar has released a new album, accompanied by a spooky music video, perfect for Halloween. The band is also hitting the road for the foreseeable future, including a Summer 2026 tour with Metallica.

Don’t Go In The Forest

On the spookiest day of the year, Avatar has unveiled their brand new album, Don’t Go In The Forest. Alongside the album, a music video for the title track was released, directed by Johan Carlén. This video perfectly encapsulates the lyrical themes and haunting energy with an almost vintage style feel.

Speaking on the album, vocalist Johannes Eckerström explains, “The secret ingredient is that we still feel like we’re just getting started. Don’t Go In The Forest is an album filled to the brim with stuff we’ve never done before. It’s all songs and concepts we haven’t been close to touch until now. The mind is wild and we have lost ourselves in the darkest woods, filled with memories, and fantasies. Forbidden thoughts that must be spoken.”

He furthered, “It would have been impossible to make this album at any other time than now. That’s all we ever wanted, and I think you’ll find it’s all you ever wanted too.”

Don’t Go In The Forest is available for streaming and purchase now and can be found here!

Impact of Avatar

Avatar has evolved and continued its acclaimed momentum over the years. Their 2023 album, Dance Devil Dance, included their No. 1 Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay hit “The Dirt I’m Buried In”. They have continued on to headline multiple sold-out tours, and even have a fossil named after them.

Twenty One Pilots to Cover “Seven Nation Army” at the Rock Hall Induction Honoring The White Stripes

Fresh off the release off their new album Breach, which became the duo’s second record to debut atop the Billboard 200, Twenty One Pilots are stepping into the spotlight once again, this time to honor one of rock’s most iconic duos. The GRAMMY-winning pair announced they’ll be performing The White Stripes’ legendary anthem “Seven Nation Army” at this year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on November 8 in Los Angeles.

The tribute performance comes on the heels of the aforementioned massive year for Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun, who’ve continued to prove they’re one of modern rock’s most electric live acts. Now, they’re taking that energy to the Hall of Fame stage to salute Jack and Meg White, the band that helped define a generation of stripped-down, garage rock rebellion.

Fans can catch the set when the ceremony streams live on Disney+ at 5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET on November 8, with the full show available to stream afterward.

Get ready, this “Seven Nation Army” is about to march straight into Twenty One Pilots territory.
